Information on emergency blood drives

The capacity of the Central Blood Bank of Pittsburgh to receive and process blood has, for… The capacity of the Central Blood Bank of Pittsburgh to receive and process blood has, for the time being, been exceeded. The need for blood and the critical shortage of blood products is expected to continue in the weeks and months ahead.

In light of this, all members of the University community are encouraged to participate in previously scheduled Central Blood Bank drives on Friday, Sept. 21 and Tuesday, Oct. 16. Call Gwen Watkins at (412) 624-7702 to schedule an appointment. Student walk-ins will also be accepted.

Central Blood Bank is working with the American Red Cross to organize additional blood drives during the coming weeks. Please check the broadcast messages on the University audix system for dates and times, and watch for notices in The Pitt News, University Times and Campaign Chronicle.

If, in the interim, you want to give blood before next week, the following blood donor sites and hours nearest Oakland include:

Downtown, Central Blood Bank

812 Fifth Ave.

Monday through Wednesday: 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Thursday and Friday: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday: 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Monroeville, Central Blood Bank

Building II, Corporate I Office Park

Monroeville

Tuesday and Thursday: Noon to 7 p.m.

Friday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday: 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

North Hills, Central Blood Bank

Andre Plaza, # 203 (Next to Northway Mall)

McKnight Road at Babcock Boulevard

Monday through Thursday: Noon to 7 p.m.

Saturday: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

South Hills, Central Blood Bank
