A crane fell into Langley Hall on Friday morning, damaging the building.
Between 9-9:30 a.m., the crane, which belongs to Franco Associates, a construction company renovating Ruskin Hall, tipped over and hit the side of Langley Hall, according to Pitt spokesperson Ken Service. No one was injured.
A few professors and students were in Langley Hall, which houses the biological science department, at the time of the accident, Service said. Pitt evacuated the building for “an hour or two, just to be safe.”
The damage to Langley was very minor and only cosmetic, according to Service. Pitt does not yet have an estimate on how much it will cost to repair the damage or when it will complete repairs.
The crane had been sitting on Ruskin Avenue, in between Ruskin and Langley Halls, and had been trying to lift a load of scaffolding onto the roof of Ruskin Hall when it fell.
The accident will not set back renovations on Ruskin Hall, Service said. A new crane arrived on site shortly after the construction crew removed the fallen one on Friday morning.
A representative from Franco Associates could not be reached in time for publication.
