Men’s Basketball: Steven Adams receives NBA rookie honor

Former Pitt men’s basketball player Steven Adams has been named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team, the league announced.

Adams, who played at Pitt as a freshman during the 2012-2013 season before declaring for the NBA Draft, received a place on the five-person list on Thursday,  after garnering nine First Team votes and 47 Second Team votes for his performance with the Oklahoma City Thunder, which drafted him 12th overall last June.

The voters consist of 125 American and Canadian media members.

The Thunder are in the middle of the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. They trail two games to none.

The New Zealand native averaged 3.3 points and 4.1 rebounds during the regular season.

He has seen his playing time increase in the postseason, averaging 17.6 minutes in 14 games after playing 14.8 minutes per contest during the regular season.

In his one year on campus, Adams averaged 7.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 23.4 minutes — good enough for a spot on the six-member Big East rookie team.
