Pitt police issue crime alert following Ward Street home invasion

Pitt police have issued a crime alert for Oakland after a home invasion early Saturday morning.

Pitt and Pittsburgh police responded to a call for a home invasion at 3313 Ward St. at approximately 12:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. The victim told police two black men with guns forced their way into his second floor apartment where he and his roommate lived.

A witness to the incident told police the two men fled from the building, one them appearing to have a silver hand gun and the other carrying something heavy. The witness said one of the men ran away down Ward Street while the other fled toward Cato Street.

On Sunday, a man in his early twenties who lives at 3313 Ward St. refused to identify himself or comment on the home invasion at his address.

Police describe the first suspect as a black man wearing a grey sweatshirt and a white bandana or mask covering his face. Police describe the second suspect as a black man also wearing a grey sweatshirt and carrying a black satchel.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call the Pittsburgh Police Department (Zone 4) at 412-422-6520 (reference CCR # 15-199128) or the University of Pittsburgh Police at 412-624-2121 (reference report #15-03044).
