Pitt Police Blotter: 12/6/2013 – 12/9/2013

Friday, Dec. 6

8:11 a.m. — Police received a report of an elevator entrapment and notified Otis Elevator Company.

8:46 a.m. — Police received a report of an individual who had passed out and sustained a head injury at the Petersen Sports Complex. City medics responded and transported the person to UPMC Presbyterian.

9:51 a.m. — Police responded to a report from Roberto Clemente Drive. A University-owned vehicle bumped into a car that was parked there. There was minor damage and nobody was injured.

4:37 p.m. — Police responded to a hit-and-run incident at O’Hara Garage in which a vehicle was hit while parked.

7:19 p.m. — Police towed four vehicles for parking in a posted no-parking area.

8:07 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a small amount of marijuana discovered in Lothrop Hall. The area was checked and the call was unfounded.

8:55 p.m. — Police responded to a false fire alarm activation in the William Pitt Union. The activation was due to a faulty pull station. City fire responded and cleared the call.

8:55 p.m. — Police assisted the Carnegie Mellon Police Department with a welfare check. Contact was made and the individual was advised.

11:34 p.m. — Police issued a citation to a student for public drunkenness on O’Hara Street.

11:36 p.m. — Police responded to a false fire alarm activation in the William Pitt Union due to a malfunction in the system. City fire responded and cleared the call.

Saturday, Dec. 7

12:12 a.m. — Police issued a citation to a non-affiliate for disorderly conduct on the corner of Forbes Avenue and South Bouquet Street.

12:54 a.m. — Police issued a citation to a student in Sutherland Hall for marijuana possession and disorderly conduct.

1:30 a.m. — Police responded to a report of trespassing on McKee Place. A student was arrested for criminal trespassing, simple assault, disorderly conduct, defiant trespassing and public drunkenness.

8:39 a.m. — Police responded to a false fire alarm activation in Sutherland Hall due to a water pipe breaking. City fire responded and cleared the call.

2:09 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a stolen cell phone in the Hillman Library. An investigation is pending.

3:40 p.m. — Police assisted an individual with a voluntary commitment. The person was transported to Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic and the incident was cleared.

5:12 p.m. — Police responded to a reported theft of a backpack in Bellefield Hall. An investigation is pending.

7:04 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a vehicle that was blocking the entrance to a garage at the Forbes-Craig Apartments. The vehicle was towed and the owner was issued a parking citation. The incident was cleared.

8:35 p.m. — Police responded to a false fire alarm activation in Langley Hall due to a faulty duct sensor. City fire responded and cleared the call.

Sunday, Dec. 8

=1:36 a.m. — Police determined that a driver at a traffic stop at Bates Street and McKee Place had a suspended license. The vehicle was towed and three traffic citations were issued. The incident was cleared.

1:44 a.m. — Police recovered property in Lothrop Hall and placed the items in an evidence locker. The incident was cleared.

8:46 a.m. — Police responded to a report of an elevator entrapment in Litchfield Tower B. The Otis Elevator Company responded and all parties were able to get off the elevator. The incident was cleared.

2:06 p.m. — Police responded to a motor vehicle accident without injury on Allequippa Street and Sutherland Drive. Both parties exchanged driver’s information and the incident was cleared.

2:27 p.m. — Police responded to a motor vehicle accident without injury on Darragh and Terrace streets. The report was of a vehicle that slid into the bumper of a Pitt shuttle bus. Both parties exchanged driver’s information and the incident was cleared.

Monday, Dec. 9

1:16 a.m. — Police responded to a report of an individual who was feeling ill in Sutherland Hall. City medics responded and transported the person to UPMC Presbyterian. The incident was cleared.

4:43 a.m. — Police recovered a cell phone in Biomedical Science Tower 3 and placed the item in an evidence locker. The incident was cleared.

9:07 a.m. — Police received a report from an individual about a hit-and-run accident in the OC lot on Allequippa Street. An investigation is pending.

11:47 a.m. — A report was issued in error at the Public Safety building.

2:19 p.m. — Pitt police received the following reports of alcohol violations at the Public Safety Building: 

1. On Oct. 5, 2013, at 12:45 a.m. four students were found in possession of alcohol in Panther Hall.

2. On Oct. 5, 2013, at 12:45 a.m. four students were found in possession of alcohol in Pennsylvania Hall.

3. On Nov. 9, 2013, at 12:02 a.m. three students were found in possession of alcohol in Sutherland Hall East.

4. On Nov. 16, 2013, at 12:12 a.m. six students were found in possession of alcohol in Litchfield Tower C.

5. On Nov. 15, 2013, at 8:45 p.m. five students were found in possession of alcohol in Nordenberg Hall.

5. On Nov. 15, 2013, at 8:45 p.m. five students were found in possession of alcohol in Nordenberg Hall.

3:05 p.m. — Pitt police assisted city police with a harassment complaint at the Public Safety Building. The incident was cleared.

3:51 p.m. — Pitt police assisted the Cranberry Township Police Department with a harassment complaint at Litchfield Tower C. The incident was cleared.

5:30 p.m. — Police responded to a report of an individual who was possibly having an anxiety attack while taking a final exam at Posvar Hall. City medics responded and cleared the incident. 

7:24 p.m. — Pitt police assisted city police and city fire with a report of a burglar alarm and fire alarm at 3500 Fifth Ave. Upon arrival, officers discovered a back door open. The building was checked with negative results and the incident was cleared.

9:47 p.m. — Police responded to an individual who became unresponsive in custody at UPMC Shadyside. An investigation is pending.

Tuesday, Dec. 10 

12:22 a.m. — Police responded to a false fire alarm activation due to a fire extinguisher being set off. City fire responded and cleared the call.
