Donald completes sweep, wins Outland Trophy, Bednarik Award

Aaron Donald finished off a perfect awards week Thursday night at the Dance Hall on the Disney Boardwalk in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., where he was presented the Outland Trophy and Bednarik Award as a part of ESPN’s College Football Awards Show.

“I am just overwhelmed with all the wonderful honors from this week,” Donald said. “It really makes you speechless.”

The Outland Trophy is awarded to the nation’s best interior offensive or defensive lineman by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee and Football Writers Association of America, while the Bednarik Award is given to college football’s most outstanding defensive player and presented by the Maxwell Football Club.

Donald became the first Panther to win the Outland Trophy since Mark May in 1980, and his four major awards top the three won by Hugh Green in 1980.

Donald won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Monday, awarded to the nation’s best defensive player, and the Lombardi Award Wednesday as college football’s top lineman or linebacker.

“This isn’t about me,” Donald said. “It is about Pitt and my coaches and teammates. I’m appreciative of all of them.”
