By far the finest pirate-themed heavy metal band out there, Scotland’s Alestorm bring their swashbuckling, head-banging ways to Pittsburgh this Tuesday. Norwegian folk-metal act Trollfest will play in support.

Though Hunters vocalists Isabel Almeida and Derek Watson may be dating, this band isn’t some cutesy gimmick. With violently energetic live performances, big hair and frantic Melvins-inspired sound, this couple can hit the stage as hard as anyone around.

Live Read: “The Goonies”

Arcade Comedy Theater

Doors open at 8 p.m.

Admission: $10 

Join an assembly of local comics and actors as they read aloud the screenplay of the 1980s favorite “The Goonies.” The latest installment of Arcade Comedy Theater’s Live Read series, the reading is directed by Chris Preksta, who has gained Internet fame locally for his “Pittsburgh Dad” sketches on YouTube.

$8 general admission

“Caucus” is a documentary that follows Republican-nominee hopefuls during 2011 and 2012. Come see all your favorites — Bachmann, Perry, Santorum and Romney — as they battle against Obama and themselves.

Part of the PNC Broadway across America program, it’s a live performance of the modern-day classic. Watch Buddy the elf journey to New York City in order to find his real family, and enjoy all the shenanigans that come along with it.

Civil War Era Drawings from the Becker Collection

A fascinating exhibit for Civil War and newspaper buffs alike, this exhibit is a collection of more than 100 drawings by the artists of Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper. It’s a fascinating look at how wars were recorded before photography existed.

Tickets: $35

Known for popular hits such as “Kids” and “Electric Feel,” psychedelic synthpop band MGMT will perform on the North Shore Saturday night with opening act Kuroma.
