Pitt issues emergency alert for broken gas line

The city fire department has secured a broken gas line in front of the Petersen Events Center… The city fire department has secured a broken gas line in front of the Petersen Events Center this afternoon, according to an alert issued by Pitt’s Emergency Notification Service.

Emergency responders closed traffic on Terrace Street between Lothrop and O’Hara streets for about an hour after the line broke. They allowed traffic to proceed normally around 2:15 p.m.

Pitt and city police also responded to the scene. The alert said a contractor doing work in the area likely broke the line.

Pitt sent out the alert — the first in more than a year — at about 1:30 p.m. to all students, faculty and staff who subscribe to the alert service.
