Pitt adds 84 new COVID-19 cases since April 6

Pitt officials said Thursday that 68 students and 16 employees tested positive for COVID-19 from April 6 to April 12.

The email sent by Pitt’s COVID-19 Medical Response Office said while there has been an increase in cases on campus, it is not “clinically significant.” The CMRO said they “continue to keep a close eye” on case numbers.

The CMRO also said to get tested if symptoms are present, and to stay up to date on vaccinations. People who are 50 years or older or immunocompromised are eligible for a second booster shot, which is available at the Pitt CoVax Vaccination Center in Nordenberg Hall. The email also encouraged people to update their current booster information.

The email said if you’re up to date on your vaccinations, you:

  • Don’t have to quarantine if you’re a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19
  • Keep your immunity strong
  • Can better protect others
  • Lessen the chances of becoming severely ill, which reduces the strain on our health care system
  • Help prevent another surge.
