Pitt lifts probation on Greek organizations

Multiple sources reported last night that Pitt lifted social probation on Greek… Multiple sources reported last night that Pitt lifted social probation on Greek organizations.

University administration lifted the probation last night on Interfraternity Council fraternities after a meeting between IFC, Panhellenic Council and Vice Provost and Dean of Students Kathy Humphrey. There was a subsequent meeting with IFC after.

Two attendees at the meetings confirmed that the social probation had been lifted.

One attendee at the meeting said that the probation was lifted with conditions.

Some of the conditions include Greek life working with the University to contribute to Pitt’s Celebrate Responsibly campaign and plan alcohol-free events on upcoming weekends.

Members of the Greek community also posted statuses regarding the end of the probation on Facebook and Twitter.

It is not clear whether the probation was lifted on organizations in the National Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhel.

The University placed more than 30 Greek organizations from IFC, Panhel and NPHC on probation after leaders were caught with alcohol at an off-campus retreat from Jan. 14 to 16, where it had been prohibited.

Social probation meant that Greeks could not “host, sponsor, co-sponsor, or participate in any social activities with non-members ANYWHERE,” according to the Student Code of Conduct.

IFC President John Hasley declined to comment, as well as Panhel President Lauren Jentleson and NPHC President Jay Oriola.
