The No. 4 recruit in the class of 2012 according to Rivals.com, the 6-foot-8-inch, 180-pound power forward from Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Mass., chose Pitt over offers from schools like Arizona, Connecticut, Ohio State, Texas and West Virginia.
“I chose Pittsburgh because I really feel comfortable with [assistant] coach [Pat] Skerry and coach Dixon,” Birch told ESPN. “I think coach Dixon is a very good coach and I’m very close with coach Skerry.”
The five-star recruit is the Panthers’ second commitment from the class of 2012. He joins 6-foot-11-inch New Zealand center Steve Adams, who committed on July 6. Adams is ranked as the No. 46 recruit in the class.
