How Pitt is represented in 2026 organized baseball

With Opening Day commencing this week, baseball season is now taking center stage. While Pitt Baseball is not one of the current premier collegiate programs — nor the best program historically — it has still produced high-level talent that produces professional careers after graduating.

The vast majority of Pitt’s high-level alumni are pitchers, including the team’s only current MLB player, Isaac Mattson, among them. At the outset of the 2026 season, the program boasts 14 alumni in the major league systems.

Isaac Mattson

The aforementioned relief pitcher spent three seasons with Pitt, appearing in 59 games with a 3.64 ERA and 104 strikeouts.

He is the sole major leaguer to begin the 2026 MLB season. Mattson’s path has moved between affiliated and unaffiliated baseball, with his first big league action coming during the 2021 season in four games with the Baltimore Orioles. In 2024, he made his Pirates debut for three games.

Then, in 2025, he began to take on a larger role and appeared in 44 games for an ERA of 2.45 in over 47 innings. Mattson broke 2026 Spring Training with the Pirates and appeared in relief in their first game.

Ryan Andrade

Right-handed pitcher Ryan Andrade transferred to Pitt ahead of his senior season in 2024, when he was named the Friday night starter for the team ahead of the season. Andrade led Pitt in strikeouts that season with 72, ending the season with a 7.29 ERA

Currently, Andrade is part of the Tampa Bay Rays system, operating as a starter for the Single-A Charleston River Dogs. Andrade was selected No. 216 by the Rays in the seventh round of the 2024 MLB Draft. He is set to start this season with the River Dogs, looking to build off last season, where he started 23 games and pitched 119 innings, with an ERA of 2.87 in 2025.

Luke Cantwell

Luke Cantwell is a record-setter at Pitt, setting the single-season walks record at 57 and leading the team with a .515 on-base percentage in his 2025 senior season. Cantwell also finished the 2025 season by reaching base safely in 51 consecutive games.

The first baseman is currently in the San Diego Padres system for the High-A Fort Wayne TinCaps. Cantwell was selected No. 610 by the Padres in the 20th round of last year’s draft. Appearing in five games in his first season in affiliated baseball, he notched five hits in 20 at-bats for a .250 batting average in Fort Wayne.

Billy Corcoran

Billy Corcoran is a right-handed pitcher who spent three seasons with Pitt, where he appeared in 42 games with an ERA of 4.24. He signed as a free agent with the Diamondbacks in 2022, where he has moved continuously up and down through their minor league teams since.

In the Diamondbacks system, Corcoran is a starter with the Triple-A Reno Aces. Corcoran is a minor league baseball veteran, initially selected by the Texas Rangers while he was still in high school in 2018 but did not sign.

Logan Evans

Logan Evans is possibly the greatest success story out of the Pitt program in a while. His mediocre collegiate stats were overlooked, and his skills proved moldable. After being selected in the 2023 MLB Draft at No. 367 in the twelfth round, Evans quickly rose through the Seattle Mariners system.

He made his MLB debut in April 2025, accumulating a 4.32 ERA in 14 starts and 15 total games. He would bounce between the Mariners and their Triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers, towards the end of the season, before rupturing his ulnar collateral ligament. Evans will spend the entire 2026 season rehabilitating his injury and Tommy John surgery.

Phil Fox

Phil Fox was the everyday closer for Pitt in his first and final season with the team, finishing as an All-American, All-Region and All-ACC honoree in 2024. He spent the two years prior at Gardner Webb University, undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2022.

A right-handed pitcher in the Chicago White Sox system, Fox will begin the season with their Double-A affiliate, the Birmingham Barons. Fox received a call up to the Barons late into the 2025 season after posting a 3.47 ERA as a reliever in High-A across 44 games. Fox was selected by the White Sox in the 2024 MLB draft, with the No. 199 selection.
Dan Hammer

Dan Hammer is a right-handed pitcher for the New York Mets Double-A affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. While at Pitt, Hammer appeared in 50 games, making 36 starts. He logged 189 strikeouts across 187.1 innings in his Pitt career, playing for the program for three seasons.

Hammer was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 13th round in 2019 at No. 378. He was selected by the Rays in the Rule 5 Draft in 2024, then elected free agency following the 2025 Double-A season. The Mets signed him, and he will be part of a large Rumble Ponies pitching staff.

Hobie Harris

Hobie Harris is a former standout right hander at Pitt, where he threw 92 innings for an ERA of 3.82 in two seasons before departing for the draft.

Hobie Harris will begin the 2026 campaign on the 60-day injured list, following a successful spring training with the Boston Red Sox. Invited as a non-roster invitee, Harris began his career with the New York Yankees, where he was taken late in the 2015 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut in April 2023 with the Washington Nationals, appearing as a reliever in 16 games for an ERA of 5.12 in that time.

Tatem Levins

Tatem Levins spent one season with the Panthers, where he appeared in 56 games and accumulated an OPS of 1.048.

The catcher is currently in the Rays minor league system, set to play as the starting catcher for the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits. Levins was selected by the Mariners in the 2022 MLB Draft in the eighth round.

Mitch Myers

Right-handed pitcher Mitch Myers was a single-year member of the Pitt program, pitching to a 3.21 ERA.

Now, Myers is a part of the Athletics minor league system, appearing as a pitcher with the Athletics’ Double-A Affiliate, the Midland RockHounds. Myers was taken by the Athletics in 2021 in the twelfth round. Last season, Myers held a 1.98 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched in Double-A.

Ryan Reed

Left-handed pitcher Ryan Reed was a weekend starter while at Pitt, pitching to a 5.01 ERA in his final season with the team. He spent three seasons with the team, appearing in two of them in 2023 and 2024.

Reed is now a member of the San Diego Padres minor league system, joining the Single-A Lake Elsinore Storm for the outset of the 2026 campaign. Reed was selected by the Padres in the 15th round of the draft last year, appearing in 2.2 innings of action during his inaugural season with the Storm.

Dylan Simmons

Right-handed pitcher Dylan Simmons recorded a 4.58 ERA in his only and final collegiate season at Pitt in 2023.

Simmons is entering his third season in the Cincinnati Reds system following his selection in the 2023 MLB Draft, and he will begin the 2026 season with the High-A Affiliate, the Dayton Dragons. In his 2025 campaign, he threw 50.2 innings with an ERA of 5.51.

Jack Sokol

Right-handed pitcher Jack Sokol put up a 5.09 ERA in his final season at Pitt, with his best performance including 10 strikeouts against Mount St. Mary’s in 2024.

Sokol began his affiliated baseball career following his signing as a free agent with the New York Yankees in 2024. He spent his entire 2025 season with the Single-A Tampa Tarpons, where he is expected to start this season.

Baron Stuart

Right-handed pitcher Baron Stuart spent his graduate season at Pitt, allowing 29 earned runs in 47 innings pitched in relief in 2022 for an ERA of 4.37

Stuart is also a member of the Yankees system, where he occupies a roster spot on the Double-A Somerset Patriots. Stuart threw 59.2 innings in 2025, allowing an ERA of 4.37
