Barroso, president of the EU’s European Commission, will speak at an invitation-only luncheon on campus Thursday.
Madelyn Ross, a spokeswoman for the University, said only members of the media and “chancellor’s guests” will be invited to the event.
The guests include students, faculty and staff, some of whom are associated with Pitt’s European studies program, as well as honorary consuls currently in the region and members of local businesses who work with Europe.
A former prime minister of Portugal, Barroso became president of the European Commission — the EU’s legislative branch — in 2004.
This is his second visit to Pitt. He came to campus three years ago to tour the University’s European Union Center of Excellence and European Studies Center.
