Boston University’s poor defense and even sloppier offense gave Pitt an 83-50 win last night at the Petersen Events Center.

The Terriers missed one shot after another, had two missed tip-ins in 10 seconds and a teammate even had a pass go through his legs in the first half. Pitt had five steals in the first half alone.

However, the Panthers had their share of mishaps.

They missed four layups in the first 10 minutes. Boston University missed two. Pitt scored 42 points in the first half but had nine turnovers. Eleven of the points came from turnovers, and eight were second-chance points. In the second half, Pitt (6-0) added 41 points to the score with 14 more from turnovers.

“We played hard,” Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon said. “It’s tough to sustain it all the way through when you have a large lead. The changing defenses with that kind of lead may be hard to attack. I thought we could have done a better job of attacking them.”

Dixon referenced Boston University’s banged up roster in his explanation of the easy win. The Terriers (1-5) were missing two of their top scorers from last year – redshirt sophomore Tyler Morris (foot) and sophomore Corey Lowe because of personal reasons.
