PAT will keep 28x running

President Shady Henien announced yesterday that the 28x airport flyer will not be leaving… President Shady Henien announced yesterday that the 28x airport flyer will not be leaving anytime soon.

“I hope everyone has heard the good news. The 28x airport flyer is not going to be cut, and I think that is largely due to the fact that a lot of the students and people from the community have voiced their concerns to Port Authority,” Henien said. “And I would like to commend all the students who came out to the public meetings.”

While the 28x will not be cut, the Port Authority will reduce routes by 10 percent in June, and if necessary, by an additional 15 percent in September.

According to Henien, Pitt students pay less than one-quarter of the standard cost to travel with the Port Authority.

While the Port Authority may be cutting down routes, SGB is working on starting a new one just for students. The Board will soon begin negotiations with the Market District Giant Eagle to develop a student shuttle to the supermarket.

“We will hopefully have the Giant Eagle shuttle available to students by next semester,” Henien said.

The student vote for the USA Today readership program will be next week, beginning Monday at 9 a.m. and ending Friday at 5 p.m. Students can access my.pitt.edu and click on the “SGB Program Vote” tab to vote on the program.

“I urge every single student to vote, hopefully yes,” Henien said.

“It’s really not that big of a deal, $2.50 to have the USA Today and New York Times here on campus,” Henien said. “It makes our school look that much more prestigious. The Senate Council is backing it, Dean of Students Humphrey is backing it and the Board of Trustees is backing it.”

About 7,000 total copies of both the USA Today and New York Times were picked up by students each week during the month-long trial period.
