A new restaurant… Five Guys comes to Pittsburgh

Tara Lane, For The Pitt News

A new restaurant called Five Guys will move into the vacant building on Bouquet Street once occupied by the combination KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut.

Jerry Murrell and his four sons founded Five Guys in Virginia 17 years ago. Its menu features dishes such as hamburgers, hot dogs and sandwiches.

Local owner Raji Sankar said she and her business partner, Randhir Sethi, pride the restaurant on its timeless food and good service.

Five Guys will accept Panther Funds to “make it as appealing as possible to the demographics,” Sankar said. Sankar and Sethi plan to open in the first week of November.

Belding talks with Pitt students

Diane McMartin, Contributing Editor

“I’m getting paid to go to Duquesne tomorrow,” Dennis Haskins, Mr. Belding from television’s “Saved by the Bell,” told a crowd of Pitt students Wednesday, “but I’m talking to you guys for free.”

Haskins stopped by the fifth floor of the William Pitt Union to talk to students and answer their questions about acting and working in television.

Although Haskins touched on many aspects of his career – including the time he spent working in the music business and what he worked on before “Saved By the Bell” and its many spinoffs – he did talk about working with Zack, Kelly and the rest of the gang from Bayside High.

“I treated each and every one of them as cast members, not as kids,” he said.

Haskins is on a tour of universities. He performed his show, which consists of comedy and anecdotes from his career, at Duquesne University Oct. 11.
