PANTHER PONDERINGS

The Pitt News chatted with students in front of the William Pitt Union yesterday afternoon… The Pitt News chatted with students in front of the William Pitt Union yesterday afternoon about their reactions to the recent RIAA lawsuit implicating several Pitt students for file sharing.

TPN: Do you participate in file sharing? Do you think you will get caught? Do you disagree with what RIAA and MPAA are doing to those who share files?

“I think it is ridiculous. I don’t file share, and I think buying files should be less expensive. I mean, we’re the reason why the artists are famous, anyways.”

Zabrina Langer, sophomore, rehabilitation science

“I don’t file share, but if they are going to charge for it at $1 a song, don’t charge $15 for a whole CD. That’s what you’d pay in the store, anyways.”

Kim Dierdorf, sophomore, undeclared

“I have file shared and have been caught on two occasions. It was for two films I downloaded, ‘The Big Lebowski’ and ‘Animal House.’ I had to delete them from my computer. They have absolutely every right to be compensated for their creations. I think what I’m doing is wrong, and I’m happy to oblige with them.”

Mike E. McNamara, junior, emergency medicine

“I file share. I don’t think I’ll get caught. I’m sneaky about it. I think if they’re trying to stop file sharing, they’re stupid, but not for wanting to get their money back. If they want their money, I don’t care, but I don’t think their attempts to stop file sharing is going to work. It’s like stopping someone from speeding.”

Nabil Rahman, freshman, industrial engineering
