Secrets About the Stars

Seven Color Sky

Arrogant Recordings

Recommended if you like: ’80s post-punk pop

Most bands don’t go for the geek-rock classification; it just happens. Local band Seven Color Sky, formerly Ordinary Boys, play pop-punk that is reminiscent of ’80s rock — the kind that sounds good.

With a powerful drummer driving their rhythm section, and poignant lyrics, Seven Color Sky adds a nice touch to the local music scene. Airy guitar riffs and a psychedelic feel that moves nicely through the songs from beginning to end make their new album, Secrets About the Stars, more than worthy of listening to.

Seven Color Sky will unleash their new sound Friday night at Club Cafe, where they will hold their record release party.

Formed in late 2002 as Ordinary Boys, the band started playing clubs throughout the ‘Burgh, and changed their name to Seven Color Sky in January of this year, right around the same time they won the Guitar Center/Joker Productions Rock Off at Club Laga.

Led by Scott Bedillion’s raspy voice, Seven Color Sky has highlighted its short career with a show with the Psychedelic Furs.

With a pop-style bass line and synth sounds throughout the tracks, their music is brought to an area that many other local bands don’t touch, using an ’80s post-punk sound mixed with a Weezer geek-rock appeal. Their indie-esque style is a nice addition to the local music scene.

Catch Seven Color Sky Friday night at Club Cafe for their record-release festivities. The 21-and-older show starts at 7:30 p.m., with Shpeez and Waking Matthew supporting. There is a $5 cover at the door. For more information, call (412) 431-4950.
