Shelter in place ended Tuesday morning

With all students living on campus moved in as of Feb. 5, the required 10-day shelter-in-place time is coming to a close.

Pitt’s COVID-19 Medical Response Office announced in an email Monday evening that the University-wide shelter-in-place period ended as of 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Once the shelter in place is lifted, students will be permitted to engage in Elevated Risk posture activities, such as dining in person, going to recreational facilities and attending in-person gatherings with a capacity of 25 people. Additionally, more in-person classes will be permitted to meet — excluding large lectures — and more common places around campus will be open.

Even though more of campus will be open, the CMRO reminded students that masks, frequent hand washing and physical distancing of at least 6 feet are still required regardless of Pitt’s operating posture. The CMRO stressed the importance of this, especially regarding eating in shared space. According to the email, this is one of the more high-risk activities for spreading COVID-19.

Students experiencing any possible symptoms of COVID-19 should call Student Health Services immediately at 412-383-1800 and not go out into the Pitt community.
