Meet the Editors | Opinions

The opinions desk is responsible for producing columns for our Monday, Wednesday and Friday publications, as well as The Pitt News editorials written by editors during the week. The opinions desk isn’t just for staff opinions writers. Letters to the Editor and Op-Eds from students, staff, faculty and anyone else connected to the Pitt community are always welcome and encouraged. We are happy to review anything you send, as long as it’s within the submission guidelines, if you email us at opinions@pittnews.com.

Emma Hannan, Opinions Editor

Hi! I’m Emma Hannan, and I am the head opinions editor. I started writing for the Pitt News my first semester freshman year on the news desk, before becoming digital editor and finally working on opinions. I am a senior political science and theatre arts major with hopes to attend law school. Outside of The Pitt News, I enjoy yoga, reading and yapping with my friends.

Tessa Powers, Assistant Opinions Editor

Hello hello! I am Tessa Powers, and I am the assistant opinions editor. I am a senior media and professional communications major minoring in political science and receiving a certificate in American Sign Language, and I started writing for the opinions desk last fall. Joining The Pitt News has been one of the best decisions I’ve made so far, and I’ve been so lucky to meet the incredibly talented and creative editors, writers and leaders that comprise this organization.

Outside of my role, I love to hang out with friends and family, read and watch HBO Max original series. I’m looking forward to working alongside old and new friends this year and can’t wait to see what’s in store!
