“You have two special groups on campus [allegedly involved], and at times both groups are considered privileged,” Delaney said of the possible perception that those involved might receive special treatment because of their groups’ statuses.
Delaney said that a fight of this consequence (See related story) is “unusual,” regardless of who is involved in it.
“It was just a weird circumstance,” Delaney said, adding that “there was a flash point, and it never simmered down.”
Delaney explained that criminal charges could possibly be filed at the end of the investigation, as well as judicial board charges. He said that investigators have already met with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office.
Although Delaney could not say how long the investigation would take, he emphasized the importance that the investigation be thorough.
“I don’t have to rush,” he said. “I need to get it right, and I need to take my time.”
“When it’s all said and done, we want justice to be done,” Delaney added.
