Men’s basketball player granted immediate eligibility after transfer

Pitt transfer Derrick Randall has been granted immediate eligibility after his waiver was granted by the NCAA, as reported by Michael DeCourcy of The Sporting News.

Randall requested the waiver after his former coach and Pitt assistant coach, Mike Rice, was fired from Rutgers in April after allegations of player abuse by Rice were revealed.

Randall transferred to Pitt in June, and will now provide immediate depth in a frontcourt that lost centers Steven Adams to the NBA Draft and Dante Taylor to graduation.

As a freshman, Randall averaged just 2.1 points and 1.5 rebounds per game as a Scarlet Knight and came off the bench to play just 8.2 minutes per game.

The 6-8, 240-pound forward from Brooklyn, NY should figure to see time on the floor as a Panther pretty early, at the very least while Talib Zanna continues his transition to center and freshman Mike Young makes his transition into the college game.
