Philosophy department schedules Perloff memorial

The philosophy department will hold a memorial service for former lecturer Michael “Mickey”… The philosophy department will hold a memorial service for former lecturer Michael “Mickey” Perloff on Friday, Jan. 21.

The service, which is open to the public, will be held in Heinz Chapel at 1 p.m. Doors open at noon.

Collie Henderson, the department’s administrative assistant, said the service will feature a variety of speakers who knew Perloff well.

She said the speakers include Ron Hoy and Jess Hollahan, friends of Perloff; James Allen and Stephen Engstrom, faculty members; David DeLorenzo, an undergraduate studying political science; and Meghan Dupree, a philosophy graduate student.

Perloff, also an assistant chair for the philosophy department, died on Nov. 19 after having a stroke at the age of 72.

At Pitt, Perloff taught classes including Introduction to Logic and Introduction to Philosophical Problems. He also worked as an undergraduate adviser for philosophy students.
