Sudiksha Konanki, a junior biological sciences and chemistry student at Pitt, was reported missing on March 6 in the Dominican Republic. The investigation is ongoing, with several international agencies looking into her disappearance.
Konanki, a resident of Loudoun County, Virginia, and a citizen of India, traveled to the Dominican Republic on March 3 for a spring break trip with five other friends and was last seen in a surveillance video in the early hours of March 6, according to a report by NBC News. Authorities are still searching for Konanki as of March 10.
The University is currently in contact with Konanki’s family and authorities in Loudoun County.
“We have offered our full support in their efforts to find her and bring her home safely,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone with information is urged to contact the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-1021.”
Konanki was last seen early in the morning of March 6 on a beach in Punta Cana, where she and her friends were visiting over the Univerisity’s scheduled spring break.
The search for Konanki has developed into an international investigation, as authorities from the United States, the Dominican Republic and the Indian embassy in the Dominican Republic are all investigating the disappearance. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department has also requested a Yellow Notice, which is a worldwide alert issued by Interpol, according to a report by CBS News.
