At 12:28 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, Pitt ENS alerted the Pitt community that University and City of Pittsburgh police were on scene at Barco Law School responding to an unconfirmed report of an armed person. At 12:34 p.m., the police were still searching the scene and urged community members to “avoid the area.”
The unconfirmed reports drew 17 police cars from the city of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Carnegie Mellon and Pitt.
Officials from the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office on scene reported there was no emergency as of 12:40 p.m. Passersby remained on scene without caution.
At 12:49 p.m., Pitt ENS confirmed that police had cleared the Barco Law School and there was “no credible threat” to the reports. They alerted the Pitt community to resume normal activity.
