On Friday, Nov. 20, Pitt took on Iowa in a ranked duel. The No. 3-ranked Hawkeyes made light work of the No. 19-ranked Panthers in Iowa City. The match was one-sided throughout, confirming that the Hawkeyes are a dominant force this season.
The final score was 36-0 in the Hawkeyes’ favor. Pitt falls to 3-1 on the season as Iowa improves to 4-1.

No. 7 Dean Peterson took on Pitt redshirt first-year Tyler Chapel to start out the match. It was a close affair throughout the first three periods, sending the match to Sudden Victory. With three seconds left, Peterson scored the decisive takedown.
That 3-0 point victory gave Iowa a three-point match lead to start.

Iowa took the second match as No. 3 Drake Ayala defeated Pitt’s No. 32 Evan Tallmadge. Tallmadge had two takedowns during the first period, one during the second and one more during the third.
Tallmadge won 13-4 and gave Iowa a major win.
141 pounds
Pitt chose to start Anthony Santaniello over Brair Priest for the 141 spot. Santaniello kept it close with Iowa’s No. 8 Nasir Bailey.
The match was in Santaniello’s favor until Bailey scored a takedown during the second period. The Hawkeye never gave up the lead and eventually won the match 4-2.

Pitt’s No. 20 Kade Brown was majored by Iowa’s No. 10 Ryder Block. The Hawkeye scored several takedowns and was awarded a point for riding time.
The match ended with Block winning 12-2.

PItt’s Vince Bouzakis took on unranked Hawkeye Victor Voinovich III for the 157-pound match. Voinovich III took home the decision of 11-6.

Pitt’s No. 25 Dylan Evans took on No. 3 Michael Caliendo. The match was in Caliendo’s favor throughout the whole bout, as he scored seven total takedowns.
The match ended with an Iowa victory of 22-6.

Luca Augustine, No. 14 wrestler for Pitt, lost 11-2 to No. 2 Patrick Kennedey.
Kennedy never let up the gas, only giving up escapes as points.

Unranked Pitt wrestler Chase Kranitz was majored by Gabe Arnold for the 184-pound match.
The match was 3-2 in Arnold’s favor, and then it quickly got out of hand during the third. He scored ten points, giving Iowa its fourth major of the night.

In the highly anticipated match between No. 4 Mac Stout and Iowa’s No. 8 Massoma Endene, it came down to the last few seconds.
Endene was trailing Stout 4-2 with just five seconds to go. And after a few snaps that saw Stout pressed against the outer circle, Endene scored a takedown and secured the match 5-4.
Pitt couldn’t capitalize on what many saw as its best opportunity to secure points against the Hawkeyes.
Heavyweight
For the final match of the night, Iowa was able to take home a shutout victory against Pitt.
Pitt’s No. 14 Dayton Pitzer couldn’t score against No. 6 Ben Kueter. The Hawkeye scored an escape and was awarded a point for riding time, winning 2-0.
The Panthers travel to Lehigh for their next match, which will take place in Bethlehem, PA, on Dec. 7. The match will start at 7 p.m.
