The decision did not come easily, he said, but ultimately was the best solution. ‘We value the efforts of our faculty and staff and have made investments in compensation a high priority over the course of many years,’ Nordenberg said in a statement released Monday. ‘However, given the stresses on our revenue streams, our ability to meet new expenses will be severely constrained.’ The announcement comes after the University’s Planning and Budgeting Committee ‘mdash; whose members include representatives of the administration, faculty, staff and students ‘mdash; recommended that next fiscal year’s budget not include a salary increase. ‘A significant workforce reduction, the most obvious alternative in an institution with such heavy commitments to personnel expenses, was considered to be a far less desirable option by all involved,’ read the statement.
