He is one Guy not to miss

With a resume of films that includes “Pearl Harbor,” “American History X” and “Runaway Jury,”… With a resume of films that includes “Pearl Harbor,” “American History X” and “Runaway Jury,” Guy Torry has played some roles that simply scream funny.
Although the three movies mentioned are not comedies, Torry has appeared in a few comedies, including “Life,” with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence and “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood,” with Marlon and Shawn Wayans.
So what does all of this mean? Well, it means that Torry wants to take acting seriously. It means that he can play a funny character as he did in “Don’t Be a Menace.” It means that he can play a serious role and sometimes steal a scene like he did in “American History X.” It also means that no matter what role he plays in a movie, he can still be funny as hell on stage.
The chance to see his comedic chops comes this weekend when Guy Torry brings his act to the Improv at the Waterfront.
Torry started in standup on the HBO hit “Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam,” and would eventually earn a spot on the “Def Comedy Jam” national tour. This was before he started acting or anyone knew he was into comedy.
Now he has done several movies, including serious roles, funny roles, major characters and minor characters. And let us not forget, he has been the host of the very successful “Kings of Comedy Tour” which featured comedians Steve Harvey, Bernie Mac and Cedric the Entertainer.
As a young and driven actor/comedian, Guy Torry has made a name for himself and is determined to keep the wheels spinning and the laughs rolling.
Catch Guy Torry performing live at the Improv on Thurs., Mar. 25 through Sun., Mar. 28. For more information or for tickets call (412) 462-5233.
