Upperclass students advise on off versus on-campus living

To dorm or not to dorm? The age-old debate of on-campus versus off-campus housing is currently waging war in the minds of the largest first-year class to ever attend Pitt.
The Oakland Planning and Development Corp. discussed the Carnegie Mellon University 2022 Institutional Master Plan, alongside the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition, at their meeting Tuesday night.

Pitt officials presented an application for Pitt’s new Institutional Master Plan to members of Pittsburgh City Council at a public hearing Wednesday afternoon.
Roughly 300 new apartments may soon come onto the Central Oakland housing market, following approval Tuesday from the City Planning Commission. The commission voted unanimously at its Tuesday meeting to greenlight an apartment building at 3500 Forbes Ave., on the site of the former Marathon gas station.

Pitt withdraws Central Oakland housing development from Institutional Master Plan

The Oakland Planning and Development Corp. held a virtual community-wide meeting Tuesday evening, and Pitt provided several updates about its Institutional Master Plan, including the removal of a planned housing development in Central Oakland. The housing development was important to students, since it acknowledged significant unmet demand for on-campus student housing.
The lot housing the Plant to Plate community garden is currently planned for potential demolishment along with other buildings and residences on Oakland Avenue as a part of the current Campus Master Plan.
