On-campus parking is available for Pitt students, faculty and staff through the University, and off-campus parking in Oakland is obtained through the Pittsburgh Parking Authority. Some Oakland commuters have reported a lack of available parking spaces, even if they have an allotted permit.

Amid the closing of more University parking every year, permit applicants are waiting over 13 years for a spot.

The parking situation in Oakland is extremely frustrating, making it difficult for those who live in Oakland and commuter students to find parking.

The Oakland Planning and Development Corp. held a public meeting Wednesday on Zoom to discuss pending changes to the Residential Permit Parking program, as well as rental registry legislation updates and air quality monitoring efforts in and around Oakland.
