Pitt’s outgoing dining contractor, Sodexo, will lay off hundreds of dining workers by the end of its contract on June 30, according to a filing with the state Department of Labor and Industry.
Sodexo laid off a majority of its workers without pay over spring break, when Pitt adjusted its dining services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Market Central and The Perch, the two dining halls on campus, remain closed.

Pitt has selected Compass Group, a British multinational foodservice company, as its new single-source dining contractor beginning July 1.
The Properties & Facilities Committee of the Board of Trustees approved multiple construction projects at their Thursday meeting.

Facebook group helps eliminate on-campus food waste

Pitt FoodShare Facebook group began in 2016 as a Student Affairs-supported project to reduce uneaten, and therefore wasted, food on campus.
The University’s current dining contract with Sodexo will expire this summer with a new contract starting July 1. Planning for the contract transition to a new vendor or renewal with Sodexo would take place between March and July.
