Pitt redshirt junior linebacker Todd Thomas told coaches today that he no longer wishes to be a member of the team, according to head coach Paul Chryst.

Following the team’s second summer training camp session, Chryst told reporters that Thomas missed practice today after falling to second on the depth chart at outside linebacker behind redshirt freshman Mike Caprara on Tuesday.

Thomas told reporters after Tuesday’s practice that the demotion would serve as motivation for him as training camp proceeded.

“I’ve just got to go out every day and just work hard and earn a spot,” he said.

Last season, Thomas was one of Pitt’s top defensive players, registering 59 tackles in nine games.
