Looking for a great place to take your date this Valentine’s Day? Pitt Arts has just the ticket. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will perform “Love is Here to Stay,” at Heinz Hall this Thursday through Sunday, featuring the love songs of George and Ira Gershwin.

“Love is Here to Stay” showcases an array of George Gershwin’s most romantic songs, including the titular “Love is Here to Stay,” “The Man I Love,” “Embraceable You” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.”

Conducted by Oscar-winning composer and Pittsburgh Pops Principal Conductor Marvin Hamlisch, the m’eacute;lange of Gershwin melodies features vocalist Doug LaBrecque, as well as the All Star College Chorus, directed by Robert Page.

The All Star College Chorus consists of 80 students from 20 universities throughout Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Shelley Sampson, Artistic Administrator for Heinz Hall, said that a quartet of Pitt students will be singing in the concert.

“[It has] great energy, with a combination of old and new love songs from George Gershwin and also the movie ‘Out of Africa,'” Sampson says, adding that “the potpourri of love songs” will also include performances by the White Tie Group, a jazz ensemble.

Student tickets are $12 through Pitt Arts, and faculty/staff tickets are $17. Treat your valentine to a one-of-a-kind Pittsburgh experience this year.
