I think it was very inappropriate to print a letter to the editor on Tuesday that singles a homecoming candidate out right before voting. The letter was not just about the “litter” on campus but it also put a specific candidate in bad light. Mia is not the only candidate who fliers, everyone does. To single her out and hurt her chances specifically, and no one else’s is disappointing. Shame on you for possibly ruining her image after all the time, money and effort she has put into this campaign and her cause to SUPPORT breast cancer awareness. I ask that an apology and correction be printed ASAP, however, you can never take back what you did and the image you created. In my opinion this is slander!

Dear Editor,

An odious group of demonstrators set up camp at Forbes Avenue and Bigelow Boulevard. Holding signs that falsely equate the Holocaust with a woman’s right to choose, they assert their condemnation of Mormons, “rebellious women” and “homosexual child molesters” (never mind the great number of heterosexual ones). While they’re entirely within their right to express their ideas in a public forum, we as students and freethinkers are not without the power to respond.

The best way to counteract their hateful ideas is to publicly ridicule them for their intolerant, misogynistic, homophobic, anti-Semitic implications. I call upon the University of Pittsburgh community to let these bigots know that their shameful ideas are wrong and not welcome on our campus. As institutions of thought, it is our responsibility to counteract and debunk intellectually bankrupt ideas for the greater public good.
