Stull, a first-year starter, damaged a ligament in his throwing hand as he tossed a pitch to running back LaRod Stephens-Howling. Stull left the game immediately, clutching his right arm.

“We feel very disappointed for Billy,” Pitt head coach Dave Wannstedt said Sunday. “He worked incredibly hard during the off-season to earn the starting job and those efforts showed in his strong play [in Pitt’s 27-3 win over Eastern Michigan Saturday].”

Redshirt freshman Kevan Smith replaced Stull in the game and will compete with promising freshman Pat Bostick for the starting job.

“We will work this week to get Kevan Smith and Pat Bostick ready to play against Grambling,” Wannstedt said.
