Finals, quite naturally, put us in the mood to reflect, so here’s our recap of some of the… Finals, quite naturally, put us in the mood to reflect, so here’s our recap of some of the big stories from the past year.

In a hotly contested midterm election, we saw the Democrats take control of the House and the Senate for the first time since 1994. We bid a tearful goodbye to Republican Senator Rick Santorum. We wish him and his family well in the private sector and hope never to see his name on a ballot ever again. We were also pleased to see that a record number of young voters made it out to the polls.

Of course we couldn’t reflect on the past year without talking about the antics of President Bush and his administration. It seems like his camp couldn’t wake up in the morning without finding out that it was embroiled in another scandal. From Guantanamo to secret prisons, torture, Rumsfeld, wire tapping, extraordinary rendition, Scooter Libby, Gonzales and “roaming Iraqi death squads,” who knows what else will come out in the next months and years. And wait, there’s one more
