Pitt Calls off class ’til noon

All Pitt classes were cancelled yesterday afternoon and will remain closed until noon today… All Pitt classes were cancelled yesterday afternoon and will remain closed until noon today because of inclement weather.

A press release yesterday cited “challenges presented by current road conditions, concerns about the availability of public transportation, and the forecast that the weather will turn even worse in the next several hours,” as the primary causes of the cancellation, which began at 4 in the afternoon.

Despite the worsening weather, don’t count on Pitt to continue with the cancellations.

“It’s a pretty big deal that Pitt is cancelling classes at all,” a representative from Pitt’s Information Desk said. “I think that the closings of any afternoon classes will be left to the discretion of the professors.”

While all classes are closed, many University offices remain open throughout the snowstorm.

“The essential services need to be maintained,” Assistant Director of News John Fedele said. “But for the other departments, we are leaving it up to the individual units’ responsibilities. It’s their call.”

While University officials are busy handling the weather situation, students have some newfound free time on their hands.

“I missed a test and a lab,” freshman Katie Sarro said. “The closings will give me extra time to study or not study.”

“I was real mad for getting Pittsburghed this morning,” senior Nate Starun said. “But apparently we got such a serving that all my classes are cancelled tomorrow. Party it up, it’s Tuesday!”
