I am a Muslim student at University of Pittsburgh. Yesterday, I read your Editorial, “Danish cartoons irresponsible” and was happy because this reflected the mentality of people who support justice and peace.

Really, I don’t know what else I can say.

Dear Sirs:

I farm in Colorado growing corn, wheat, alfalfa and sunflowers on 3,000 acres. I agree wholeheartedly with your editorial about the recent WTO decision.

There are many issues related to the introduction and promotion of GMOs and there are problems with most of them. And contrary to what the Biotech companies say, GMOs do not benefit farmers as their widespread adoption contributes to oversupply, and farm product prices drop more than whatever benefit farmers derive form GMOs.

Anyway, penalizing the customer is stupid and Europe still buys a significant amount of GMO crops from us, albeit they mostly go for animal feed only.

Moreover, penalties don’t work; some years ago the WTO gave the U.S. permission to impose penalties on the EU on the order of more than $100 million per year for not buying our hormone beef, and guess what, they’re still not buying our beef.
