9:39 a.m. — Officers received a report that phone… Thursday, March 31
9:39 a.m. — Officers received a report that phone service was out in Trees and Salk halls. Verizon reported a global problem that the company is addressing. Service was interrupted for about 20 minutes before being restored.
9:46 a.m. — An officer transported a student from Chevron Science Center to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, after the student received a small acid burn to the skin on his arm.
12:47 p.m. — Officers received a report that two men with guns were on the roof of 211 S. Craig St. Officers discovered that the people involved were filming a movie. Police confiscated the weapons in question, as well as some money. After determining that the weapons and money were fake, officers placed them into evidence.
1:43 p.m. — A woman reported the theft of her student ID and purse from an interior office in Bellefield Presbyterian Church. Officers issued an ID replacement form to the student, and the incident was cleared.
2:00 p.m. — An elderly man was found on the ground outside Mervis Hall. Medics arrived on the scene and transported him to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
2:47 p.m. — A woman reported that someone had gone through her purse and moved it from under her desk in Room 572 Scaife Hall. Two credit cards were missing from her purse, and she contacted both credit card companies.
2:59 p.m. — A computer protection alarm was reported for Room B-40 in Alumni Hall. A person in the lab accidentally set off the alarm.
3:24 p.m. — Officers assisted city police helping a bicyclist who was hit by a vehicle near the intersection of O’Hara and DeSoto streets. City medics transported the bicyclist, who suffered minor injuries, to the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital Emergency Room.
4:06 p.m. — A Litchfield Tower A security guard reported being threatened twice, both that day and the night before, by a student resident of Tower A. An investigation is pending.
4:58 p.m. — A student came to the station to report suspicious activity on a checking account. An investigation is pending.
5:03 p.m. — Officers attempted to check on a student’s well-being at his off-campus residence. Failing to find the student, the officers also checked for him in Benedum Hall, again with negative results. The officers later made contact with the student at his off-campus residence, and the incident was cleared.
5:13 p.m. — A woman reported being attacked by a man she didn’t know in the basement loading dock area of Benedum Hall. An investigation revealed that the incident was unfounded.
5:50 p.m. — Police assisted with locking Room 801 of the Cathedral of Learning, and removed the door handle to secure the door. An engineer will report the problem.
6:27 p.m. — A fire in a garbage can activated a fire alarm in Room 525 Benedum Hall. Students extinguished the fire, and an engineer reset the alarm. An investigation is pending.
Friday, April 1
2:45 a.m. — An officer responded to 425 Sutherland Hall East, where a man complained about receiving harassing phone calls on his cell phone. An investigation is pending.
4:54 a.m. — A custodian said he found an overhead projector that had been damaged or vandalized in Room 520 Benedum Hall. An investigation is pending.
