It was refreshing to read Michael Darling’s column, “Still waiting for a president without a… It was refreshing to read Michael Darling’s column, “Still waiting for a president without a god.” He reminded us of the man known as the Great Agnostic, Robert G. Ingersoll. Mr. Ingersoll’s love for humanity revealed that it is not necessary to resort to supernatural invocations to do good. The fact that there are several hundred religions in the world would mean that officially favoring one god would disenfranchise the members of all the other religions. The founding fathers (Deists by and large) gave us the most important right, in the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights, which says Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.
