Albeit, the first thing that I noticed about Wednesday’s article, “Scott Freed shares his… Albeit, the first thing that I noticed about Wednesday’s article, “Scott Freed shares his secrets,” was that the speaker’s name was misspelled as Freed, instead of Fried. Upon closer inspection of the whole article, I came across the phrase, “when he was coming to realize that he preferred homosexuality.” After reading over the paragraph a second time, I was shocked at the language and upset by the possible connotations it held.

As a representative of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Queer (GLBTQ) community here on campus, it is my duty to reiterate to all The Pitt News readers that homosexuality is not a choice. As such, I am opposed to any language, including the use of words like, “preferred,” that so much as lends itself to thinking of homosexuality as a choice.
