SGB bracelet plan misunderstood

I would like to clarify an issue that was reported in the Oct. 25 edition of The Pitt News…. I would like to clarify an issue that was reported in the Oct. 25 edition of The Pitt News. The article, which was titled “SGB Spars Over Newsletters, Yellow Bracelets and Meeting Rules,” gave the false impression that SGB was going to buy the LiveStrong bracelets and, in turn, sell them for a profit. That was never the intention of the Student Government Board. The idea was to purchase similar blue and gold Pitt bracelets in order to promote school pride, which is one of the main goals of the Student Government Board Traditions Committee.

The idea was brought up for the first time in our meeting and was never actually discussed beforehand. This project is still in the works, and I assure you that if we decide to pursue this initiative, I will fully endorse giving any proceeds to the Lance Armstrong foundation since that organization is responsible for the idea. I own one of the LiveStrong bracelets due to the long history of cancer in my family, and I understand the importance of this charity. If students have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

Brian Kelly
