Student Health has always met the needs of students

I would like to clarify a statement in the Oct. 5 issue of The Pitt News. The statement in… I would like to clarify a statement in the Oct. 5 issue of The Pitt News. The statement in question, which was regarding the resignation of Dr. Jack Daniel as dean of students reads:
“Thanks to a partnership between Student Health and Pitt’s Department of Family Medicine,” Daniel said, “students have an excellent staff of physicians available to them.”
To me, this statement implies that prior to the placement of Dr. Daniel in Student Affairs and prior to the partnership with Family Medicine, the care given by Student Health was inconsistent with the needs of the student population.
Without downplaying the importance of such relationships like the one between Student Health and Family Medicine, the fact is, there has always been an excellent staff of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, medical assistants and pharmacists available to University of Pittsburgh students.
To say otherwise is not only incorrect, but insulting to the staff members of the Student Health Service who have worked hard to give the best possible care to the students.
