Opting not to attend Pitt because of University’s lawsuit

By Pitt News Staff

I have recently graduated with honors from Florida International University in Miami, Fl., and… I have recently graduated with honors from Florida International University in Miami, Fl., and am shopping around for a graduate school to continue my studies in anthropology. I had been seriously considering the University of Pittsburgh, until I came across the following news article [a June 25 article in Queer Day] concerning the University’s attempt to not only discriminate within the institution, but to bullishly try to do so by striking down Pittsburgh’s anti-discrimination laws.

From what I know and have read about Pittsburgh, it should be quite clear that the city needs to attract diversity and talent with a particular emphasis on welcoming sexual minorities and immigrant communities. I am absolutely appalled that your university would purposely damage the community that supports it.

I could never consider spending my graduate school money at such a backwards institution of “higher” learning, and I shall make sure that none of my peers consider Pitt either. I hope that this letter finds someone who cares about the University and the city of Pittsburgh.

Sincerely,
