Various student organizations — including Campus Women’s Organization, Black Action Society,… Various student organizations — including Campus Women’s Organization, Black Action Society, United States Student Association and Women in Business staffed a table in front of the William Pitt Union, offering baked goods for sale at sliding prices.
Latino, Chicano or Hispanic women could buy cookies or cupcakes for 52 cents, but white men paid a full $1. Volunteers distributed information about wage gaps between races and genders, and informed patrons about what they can do to educate themselves and take action.
The groups choose yesterday — tax day — to set up the Equal Pay Day Bake Sale in order to point out disparities in pay scales for women minorities.
