With Knight gone, so was the rest of the Panthers’ spirit, ending the greatest season in Pitt basketball history, just a few free throws short of their 30th victory and a spot in the Elite Eight.
Despite battling back numerous times in the second half, including a final push in regulation to send the game to overtime, Pitt was unable to knock off Kent State, falling 78-73 in overtime.
Indiana upset No. 1 Duke in the first game to advance to the regional championship, so the Golden Flashes from Kent State will face the Hoosiers in Lexington on Saturday.
Knight and Julius Page scored 18 points each for Pitt and Jaron Brown added 13 points and eight rebounds.
