Coming down the stretch of the season, the Panthers split a doubleheader with Providence at Robert Morris’ softball field.

In the first game, pitcher Nikki Gasti picked up her sixth win for Pitt, throwing a complete game. Gasti gave up just two hits in the shutout, flirting with a no-hitter until the fifth inning. Gasti, who finished the season leading the team in strikeouts with 118, struck out seven Friars during the performance.

Pitt got all of the production from its order in the fifth inning, scoring the only two runs of the game. Freshman center fielder Beth Gill singled to right field and stole second base to lead off the inning. Junior first baseman Kate Mitchell knocked Gill in with an RBI double to right field.

Beth Steidle pinch ran for Mitchell and reached home after freshman shortstop Laura Vavricka reached first on an error by Providence
