Oakland Business Improvement District is gearing up for the winter season with a new art-based community project, Glowland. Glowland is a month-long winter festival that features a series of light-based art installations, yard games and live music until Dec. 18.

University Gamelan Ensemble introduces music from underrepresented Sundanese culture

Andrew Weintraub founded the University Gamelan Ensemble in 1997. It plays gamelan music of the Sundanese people, which contains a set of predominantly percussion instruments, including tuned gongs, metal-keyed instruments, drums and more.

The waitlist for the university child day care increased in 2020 to between four and six years long due to “closures during the pandemic and issues with staffing.” Some faculty members say the wait times do not make it a viable option, and the faculty union plans to bring it up during contract negotiations.
