Service puppy raisers navigate training dogs during pandemic

Lily Swanson got a new best friend at the start of the pandemic — a half-lab, half-golden retriever puppy named Kenzo. Swanson has raised Kenzo since March through STEP@Pitt, a student organization dedicated to raising service dogs.
Students in the Pitt Nursing and Pharmacy schools received emails informing them of their eligibility to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through the UPMC hospitals.

Pitt added 26 new COVID-19 cases, composed of 24 students and two employees, between Tuesday and Thursday, with 32 students currently in isolation. The University’s previous case report, covering last Friday to Monday, included nine cases.
Dr. John Williams, the head of the COVID-19 Medical Response Office, clarified details about Pitt’s vaccination effort, which could provide shots to up to 800 people, at Thursday afternoon’s Senate Council meeting.

Pitt faculty and staff received an email from the University’s COVID-19 Medical Response Office on Thursday afternoon outlining a new COVID-19 testing program through Quest Diagnostics as well as a vaccine and daily health check app update.
Students will be able to move back into residence halls in late January or early February if they test negative for COVID-19.
