Panthers fail to earn bid to national baseball tournament

After the College World Series Selection show on Monday, the Panthers received the news that their season was over after the selection committee did not extend them a tournament bid.
The Panthers were unable to capitalize on a phenomenal complete game performance from junior pitcher Matt Gilbertson, as the Panthers fell to NC State 3-2 — putting an end to their ACC Championship chase.

The No. 10 Panthers (23-20) fell to the No. 3 NC State Wolfpack (29-15) 3-2 at the ACC Baseball Tournament at Truist Field in Charlotte, North Carolina, putting an end to Pitt’s ACC Championship aspirations.
Pitt came into their ACC Baseball Tournament slate on Tuesday in Charlotte, North Carolina against the North Carolina Tarheels as losers in eight of their last 10 to finish their regular season. As the No. 10 seed, the lowest seed in their pool, a loss would send the Panthers back to Pittsburgh empty handed.

No. 19 Pitt baseball took two of three games over the weekend against the North Carolina Tar Heels in a series that saw a little bit of everything. From a rain-induced postponement, to a pitchers duel on Saturday and a slugfest on Sunday, there was no shortage of action in the pivotal ACC matchup.
Pitt baseball sweeped No. 20 Miami for its first home ACC series win of the season this weekend. After eight pitches, including four straight foul balls, sophomore infielder Sky Duff unloaded a grand slam to right-center field during the first game.

Senior Felix Wolter, who earned All-American honors recently, finished fourth place in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the long jump in Knoxville this weekend as the Panthers capped off the Tennessee Relays. Pitt will head to Virginia next weekend for the Virginia Challenge meet on Friday, April 16, and Saturday, April 17.
